Ok, obviously I'm horrible at updating the front page. So I had an idea. I could install WordPress (a popular blog engine) and set it up where others could post updates to the front page.

Does this sound like a good idea to you guys? Would anyone want to help update the front page like this?

What's it look like?

I have a license for the Vibrant CMS theme from WooThemes. But I don't think that fits the site well. Bottom line, I don't know yet. There are plenty of themes out there and I'm open to suggestions.

Huh... That sounds pretty interesting. That would be a fun thing just to try out and see how it goes.
That's definitely something to look into.

I think an important question to ask is what will people blog about? The show? Show-related items? Anything? I've tried similar things in the past and participation is generally difficult to maintain, and usually declines after the first couple posts. But, this could be fixed if a good idea that people can rally around is established.

Another idea is to have the forum as the main page. You go to swatkats.us and you see the forum. We could do that if the blog idea doesn't work out.

You can try multiple things. It's not like the first thing you do is going to be set into stone.

You could try one idea, give it X amount of time to test it, then move onto the next idea. Once you try everything you wanted, you can judge from there - or even run a poll to see what everyone else liked.

I agree with what Mike said if you're going to change it.

If you're looking for ideas, maybe something that displays the ten most recent posts on the front page, fed from the Active Topics section. SWAT Kats.com used to have that a long time ago, and I always found it useful.

If you can also develop a way for people to embed that on their web sites as a kind of widget or displayable feed, that could also be neat I suppose, and bring you more traffic.

I dislike the blog idea. Like or not, Swat Kats is a dead show. So no news, or 1 per year. Very boring.

Also, who and what would be posted anyway? Wouldn't it be vulnerable to vandalism?

I think http://www.swatkats.us should be kept as a site of information and data only. (besides Kishi will always pwn you... XD)

Or promotion of art from fans, both writings and drawings. This area at least will always bring news, weekly.

clint do you want me to build you a php/mysql site from scratch? I have been doing some free lance work lately and its fun. I know i offered my services before and I'd like to offer them again if you wish.
